“Teach Me Sex” with Dr. Sam

I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Sam for my latest Teach Me Sex episode and it was a great one! Dr. Sam DuFlo PT, DPT, PRPC is a physical therapist as well as the owner and founder of Indigo Physiotherapy, based in Maryland.  She and her team of fellow healthcare workers including PTs, lactation consultants, Craniosacral therapists and bodywork therapists focus on pelvic health, pelvic physical therapy, prenatal and postpartum training, oncology and women’s/men’s/pediatric/transgender health concerns. You can learn more about Dr. Sam and Indigo Physiotherapy here!

Dr. Sam is passionate about the care she and her team provide. It was when she realized that she wanted a space where she can provide treatments that are more trauma aware, pleasing to the senses and not so much like the traditional healthcare settings (fluorescent lighting, sterile environment, etc.) that she set out to start Indigo Physiotherapy. The clinics are so welcoming, I feel relaxed the second I step inside.  I love the esthetics!

Since starting her business she has also realized just how many people aren't aware that sex doesn't need to be painful and it should also be fun!

Sex and Pleasure are two different worlds.

Our conversation lead to a great point and that is that sex and pleasure are two different worlds. Too often sex is simply a mechanical act that lacks pleasure. These two worlds aren't always singing joyfully, hand in hand. It was for this reason that Dr. Sam has made sure to include specific questions about pleasure, and not just sex, on the initial intake form at Indigo Physiotherapy. Kudos to Dr. Sam!

When it comes to pleasure and what we like it's also important to note that more often than not, the things we like during sex changes over time and perhaps even with the partner you're with. This is why it can be beneficial to help our client's realize the importance of exploration and finding what brings them pleasure. Because....

Sex is more than just penetrative sex.

(Say it louder for the people in the back! Amirite?!) Let's remain open minded and help our clients identify the things that make them feel sexy, have fun, and bring pleasure back into their sex lives.

"Teach Me Sex", the Dr. Sam Special!

When it came to asking Dr. Sam her "Teach Me Sex" tip, she shared not just one, but three tips so get your pen and paper ready!

1. Lubricant can make you or break you. There are good ones and bad ones and you can use too much or too little. But, when used right, it's great! And let's not forget that we can put it on breasts, nipples, and use it for massaging.  Think of lubrication as the electrical conductor  (& amplified) for pleasure!

2. Find toys you like that feel good. Using toys and lube can make things fun!

3. Have sex with the lights on. Because you're a "badass bitch and should watch yourself engaging in sex"! Touché!  Lights on, clothes off, People!

I hope you all enjoy this episode of "Teach Me Sex"! You can listen to the full interview with Dr. Sam on my Youtube channel.
